Visiting a Frontline Bakery to Feel at Home
Spring 2022, the city of Sloviansk in the Donetsk region is filling up with soldiers. People are evacuating en masse, the air becomes heavier, and bombings more frequent for those who choose to stay. Some business owners are relocating, while others are shutting down due to the lack of people, raw materials, and constant shelling. Despite all this, right in the city center, there's a small, cozy bakery called "Slavna Bakery." It has never closed its doors since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, supplying bread to the people of Sloviansk even when the city's bread factory stopped working for five months due to the lack of gas.
